Background and Beginnings!
Hey Y'all!
This post is long but I want to start out by giving a little background information about us and where we are at in our building process since I began this blog a little late!
My name is Mary-Louise, I am 22 and engaged to Shayne who is 21. We met at Clemson University and now we are about to graduate, GO TIGERS! We got engaged in September of 2016 and will be married this September on the 23rd (I can't wait but then again I can because planning a wedding while also trying to graduate and now also building a home = StReSs)!
All semester we have looked for a place to call home as newlyweds in our dream area of Greenville, SC hoping that Shayne got a job there. And finally, he got a job in Anderson, which is about 30 minutes away! We were so excited at the prospect of being able to hop on the highway and be in our favorite city in no time..... until we searched for a place to live in Anderson. Nothing felt like home and I was discouraged by the grocery stores and shopping centers (I love to run errands), there were no trees and everything felt so flat and hot. It's hard to explain but the environment just didn't feel right.
Then we stumbled upon The Oaks in Piedmont, SC, a Ryan Home development halfway between Shayne's work and Greenville! How perfect right? Wrong. After looking at the model, picking the Florence floor plan, and meeting with the Sales Rep (SR), who was awful and pushy, I couldn't sleep. It didn't feel right and I felt as if I was going to throw up every time I thought about signing papers. So I did what I do best and started to research (thanks Mom for that skill!). I found a Ryan Home development, as we really liked the floor plan, in Simpsonville, SC which was a little further away from Shayne's new job but closer to Greenville so I convinced Shayne to take me there to see it. IT WAS PERFECT!!!! There were trees, and a pool, shopping, people, and it felt like home! So we met with the SR there, shout out to Josh- he's great, and went home to sleep and pray on it after deciding on a lot that we would want if we signed. Within 4 days, on April 18th, we had signed the contract on a florence, after making an offer and negotiating on price which I highly recommend, and the lot would soon become ours! I was a little nervous as this would be our first home and biggest purchase we've made, but I was excited and Shayne was confident!
Next up, house selections!
Have courage and always be kind,
Mary-Louise & Shayne
