Meeting with Guardian

Hey Y'all!

Well this past week has been crazy busy considering it was our final week of the semester. Let me just start off by saying, don't be alarmed when it is almost impossible to get in touch with Guardian and Rite Rug. We tried to contact the rep for Rite Rug several times and she never called us back until we told our SR about the issue and of course, an hour later the phone rang. The same thing happened with Guardian. We were told that they would contact us for our meetings and a week went by and nothing- remember you only have 2 weeks from the day your contract is drafted and signed to meet with the two services. So after telling our SR, they called immediately and we set our appointment with Guardian for Thursday(April 27th) and Rite Rug for Friday morning, the 28th, but we had to reschedule that for Wednesday, May 3rd because of a medical emergency (we're fine!).

Also, on a side note, we were emailed on April 26th that our estimated closing date is August 15, 2017!! So just to recap- our contract is dated April 15th, 2017, even though we didn't sign it until the 18th. Our SR did this so we would be set for the August timeline rather than after September. So hopefully our house will be done in plenty of time before our wedding on September 23rd so we can move our stuff and Shayne in (we aren't living together until after we are married) without a whole lot of stress and pressure!

But anyways back to our meeting with Guardian. After our busy week of presentations, papers, and exams and prepping for finals this coming week(Shayne graduates in 2 weeks HOORAY!), we scooted over to the model home and met with Guardian. We were told that all the outlets and switches seen in the model home florence is what we would receive and anything extra is of course, an additional cost. So with that, these are the electrical additions made to our home, ps- I gladly let Shayne have free rein on this one as electrical things are his fave:

Electrical Additions:

- Rather than having 3 cable hookups and 1 phone line, we eliminated the phone line and now have 4 cable hookups

- Cable hookups were placed in the family room, loft, guest bedroom (bedroom #3 when looking at floor plan) and master bedroom

- Outlet added to ceiling in garage, closet under the stairs and the closet in bedroom #2 (bedroom #2 will be Shayne's study)

- CAT 6 wiring throughout the house (future hubby says that will allow us to have wifi access points wherever we need them to be.. that is clearly his expertise, not mine lol)

- Base security system package which included one motion sensor

- Added extra motion sensor to base security package

I think that is it for electrical things with guardian! I am so excited as we are getting closer to seeing progress on our lot (pic below) because we have our meeting with our project manager (PM) this Friday, May 5th, YAY!!!! I think that is it for now and I'll keep y'all posted on our upcoming meetings!

Have courage and always be kind,

Mary-Louise and Shayne

Picture of our lot! It looks small but it is perfect for us and our first home! All that wood and sod is for our neighbors to the right!

  1. Thanks for putting this blog together and updating it continues to help us through the process. We signed our contract on 4/7/2017 but will not have a estimated move in date until approximately 11/30/2017. Unlike many others, in our community we do not have multiple meetings, we meet with our options manager once to go over all of these options. However this does leave some things rather limited as you select your cabinet/countertops/flooring options all as a package. Keep up the great work!

    1. Hi James! I am so glad my blog is helping y'all through your building process! I know that I have read, and still read, countless blogs because they are helpful in preparing you for what to expect and that is what fueled me to blog as well! Your move in date is a lot further out than ours is but we signed our contracts around the same time, that is interesting. I wonder why that is? If you blog, I would love to follow your journey!

    2. We asked for it to be a little later due to job with athletics at university it should line up with approximate end of season. Also with so many houses they have pushed back dates for completion (I believe that our community has sold approximately 38 houses in 2 months) should be starting to clear land this week.
